This blog post is about a few things that I have made recently. I don’t write blogs very often but one of these projects I am very exited about so I thought it deserved one.
First of all just a few bowls that I made today.

The first and last pictures are an Oak bowl that I liming waxed. The other pictures are a bowl that my 9 year old brother made. Both are for sale on the home page of this website. Email me if you would like to buy either of them.
The second project (one that I am very exited about) is my chess board. I have spent a few weeks working on this with a friend who has lots of machinery and lots more space than me! The squares are made from Maple and Ebony and the frame is Brown Oak. Brown Oak is interesting, in that it is actually normal European Oak, but it has had Beefsteak fungus growing on it. This effectively kills the tree but in doing so, dyes it a chocolate brown. It also rots the tree, so you have to fell it before it is too rotten to use.

The actual board is finished with 3 coats of water based varnish. I am very pleased with it and I am now in the middle of making pieces for the board. They will be Black Walnut and Maple.
I also woodturned a bottle opener a few weeks ago. It is made of Bocote, which is a very oily wood. The metal part has a threaded bar coming out from it which got glued into a drilled hole.

So that concludes todays roundup of my recent projects. Once again for any purchases or commissions email me at edmund@ebwoodwork.co.uk.
